Some Couplets Written in the Absence of Blake
by Dorian Westerly

I like people who wait and wait:
I don't like people who leave it to fate.

People who squint in order to think
Are waiting for god to give them a wink.

People who ask 'where are we going?'
Still think they can change with a better showing.

What some remember, some forget,
But I'd be willing to take a bet.

I like people who take chances:
I don't like people presuming on answers.

Whenever my list hoards up to many 'lastly's
I remember wise old Ecclesiastes.

Lovers can walk till the end of the moon
But thinkers all think the Apocalypse soon.

A poet can see in a stain on his unders
What prophets and pirates hear in the thunders.

The lover returns through the doors whence he came
And only a whisper remembers his name.

We can wait till the end for the end of sorrow
But what do we have on the wall for tomorrow?
